Our initial session is an opportunity to discuss what has brought you to therapy and what specific changes you would like to make in your life. This appointment includes extensive information gathering. After this appointment we will decide on a focus for therapy and what is the best way to continue. Clients are asked to arrive 15-20 early for your first appointment to complete paperwork. 

Mindfulness Skills 

As a part of counseling, I offer the option of guidance in mindfulness based skills. Mindfulness is defined by Jon Kabot-Zinn (2003) as "paying attention to something, in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally". Mindfulness is both a general life practice of attention to the present moment, and a meditation style. I offer guidance in both to the extent of your interest. The practice of mindfulness increases our capacity to respond rather than react in stressful situations and supports our ability to make wise choices when faced with emotional difficulties. Practicing mindfulness enhances our ability to not over react or become overwhelmed by what's going on around us.
