Confidentiality & Privacy Policy

The law protects the relationship between a mental health counselor and client, and nothing can be disclosed without written permission.  All aspects of mental health counseling services are confidential.  I follow guidelines set by the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) which protects confidentiality of clients including your healthcare record.  In brief, all interactions are confidential between us without your specific written consent.  Exceptions to this apply only in the cases of emergency or when required by law such as in the case of suspected child abuse or a court order from a judge.  Detailed information regarding privacy practices is provided at your first appointment, and you are asked to request information or clarification about any aspects of privacy or confidentiality at any time.  Handling all aspects of my practice myself assists in ensuring privacy at my office.
